Some careers follow a straight line. Mine has been more of a determined zigzag — and I wouldn’t change a thing.
I began my professional journey as a receptionist, working full-time while pursuing a degree in Computer Studies with a focus on web design. Balancing phone calls and coursework wasn’t easy, but it taught me two important lessons early on: how to prioritize and how to stay persistent. Three years after starting, I graduated, eager to put my technical skills to work.
Opportunity came from an unexpected place. My employer at the time — a respected law firm — asked if I could assist the marketing team. It began with updating attorney bios and refreshing website content. Before long, I was updating the firm’s main website, multiple micro-sites, and firm-wide marketing content. What started as a favor evolved into a nine year career in legal marketing, where I honed my skills in content management, digital strategy, and professional branding.
In 2017, after over a decade of growth and contributions, I was laid off during a firm-wide merger. Not one to stay idle, I soon found a new opportunity — thanks to a referral from an attorney I had previously worked with — as a receptionist at another leading law firm. While this role felt like a step back on paper, I treated it as an opportunity to stay connected to the professional world, diligently applying for marketing and HR roles behind the scenes.
Persistence once again paid off. In 2020, as COVID-19 disrupted workplaces nationwide, I transitioned to a remote receptionist role until we could return to work, becoming one of the few team members answering calls across the country — while also assisting the recruiting department with critical administrative support.
Recognizing my ability to juggle multiple responsibilities, the firm offered me a “slash title” in 2021: a hybrid role that combined reception duties with recruiting support. For two years, I embraced this dual responsibility, continuing to grow my skills and expand my experience.
In 2023, a former colleague referred me to a new role. It felt like the perfect next step, and I seized the opportunity. Unfortunately, after only a few months, the company restructured, and I was once again laid off. Though unexpected, the experience reinforced what I’ve known all along: resilience, adaptability, and a willingness to grow are essential ingredients for a lasting career.
Today, my background blends a unique combination of front-line customer service, digital marketing, recruiting support, and administrative excellence. Each experience — whether steady, surprising, or challenging — has helped me build a versatile skill set and a professional outlook rooted in perseverance, flexibility, and an unwavering commitment to quality work.
I’m excited for what’s next and ready to turn the next opportunity into another chapter of growth.
